Country footy player in critical condition at RPH after incident during match between Moora and Jurien Bay

A country football player is in critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital after suffering possible spinal injuries during a match on the weekend. The player was injured in the Central Midlands Coastal Football League game between the Moora Mavericks and Jurien Bay Bulldogs’ league sides at the Moora Recreation Ground on Saturday. The game started at 2.15pm but was abandoned shortly after, with a St John WA spokesperson confirming a call was made for an ambulance at the venue at 2.46pm. It is understood the player reported to have lost feeling in his legs. In a joint statement WA Football and Country Football WA, they confirmed they were aware of a “serious injury” in a CMCFL match. “We are working with the clubs and league and will continue to provide necessary support to everyone involved,” they stated. The St John WA spokesperson said they were called to the local Moora oval to treat a man in his 20s for possible spinal injuries as a result of a football incident. He was taken to Moora Hospital and then driven by ambulance to RPH, arriving about 8.10pm on Saturday. A RPH spokesperson on Tuesday morning said the man remained in a critical condition in ICU. It is understood the injured player is from Moora. It has not been officially confirmed whether the injury was the result of an on-field altercation or during a passage of play. An official from the CMCFL said they had been instructed not to comment. “We are aware of the incident and Country WA Football is investigating,” he said. A WA Police spokesperson said no report or complaint had been made to police at this stage. Both Moora and Jurien Bay clubs have been contacted for comment.
