Country charm at Morawa District High School and WA College of Agriculture - Morawa’s combined school ball

Some things stay the same no matter where you live — whether it’s in the city, country or the outback — and one of those constants would have to be the rite of passage that is the school ball. Country charm combined with glitz and glamour when Morawa District High School and the WA College of Agriculture — Morawa held their combined school ball on May 13. Almost 100 students took centre stage at the Brownlow-themed event at the Morawa Town Hall. A big effort school community effort helped make the night a success, with staff and students pitching in with preparations, decorations, catering and photos. Many college families travelled to Morawa from hundreds of kilometres away to be with their children on their big night. “It’s a big, important occasion for our schools collectively and the extended Mid West and Great Northern communities,” Morawa DHS education assistant Maryanne Milloy-Rakich. Two sets of belles and beaus of the ball were named for each school. Ariel Sauvarin, from Perenjori, and Darcy Tynan, from Morawa, were belle and beau for Morawa DHS, while Penny Chadwick, from Geraldton, and Campbell Greig, from Paraburdoo, were belle and beau for the college. College day students and boarders took pre-ball photos at their residence and then returned at the end of the night to the boarding house, where they celebrated the big night around the traditional bonfire.
