Carnarvon will see construction of a new 38-bed residential aged and palliative care facility begin next month to meet rising demand for aged care in the community.

The $18.8 million facility will be attached to the Carnarvon Health Campus in the centre of town and integrate with other health services.

Announcing the project today, the State member for the mining and pastoral region Kyle McGinn said the new facility was essential to the future needs of the Carnarvon community.

When complete, the facility will have a dedicated entrance, flexible spaces allowing it to cater for varying resident needs and improved access to telehealth services.

The construction contract was awarded to Mid West-based Crothers Construction and is expected to create up to 150 jobs in the community.

Current care residents will be able to remain at the existing campus through the construction and will be transitioned to the new facility upon completion in early 2022.
