CMCFL round 8: Dandaragan trump Lancelin as they record five straight wins for top of the table

After dropping their first game of the season by 60-points, Dandaragan have been on a roll as they claim top spot in the Central Midlands Coastal Football League. The Saints got up in the high scoring contest 22.9 (141) to 15.8 (98) over Lancelin Ledge Point at Lancelin Oval. The Pirates have struggled to limit their opposition’s scoring in recent weeks with the side allowing a total points score of 182 to Cervantes last week followed by 141 to “Dandy” on Saturday. Dandaragan proved they came to play early, kicking 9.1 (55) in the opening term, while Lancelin answered with four goals of their own. The Pirates responded in the second, kicking another four goals to close the margin to 16-points heading into the main break. It remained a close game throughout the third quarter, but the Saints turned on the afterburners in the fourth, booting seven goals to record a 43-point win over the Pirates. The CMCFL’s leading goalkicker Campbell Putland reclaimed his top spot in the win with a bag of six goals against the Pirates. Fellow Saints Ambrose Ryan and Robert Warrell enjoyed good days out with three goals each, while Gabriel Westlake booted five goals for Lancelin. * It was a surprisingly close contest at Cervantes with the Tiger Sharks getting up by 26 points over the Mavericks. Cervantes were coming off a 155-point win the previous week while Moora are yet to break the ice in 2024. Despite the difference between the teams in previous weeks, Moora got the jump on Cervantes to take a four point lead into the first break. Although the home side rallied in the second term to lead at half-time by eight points, the game was much closer than expected. A three goal third term from the Mavericks saw them chasing a six-point deficit. However, Cervantes were able to seal the game in the fourth quarter, kicking 4.4 to the Mavericks’ 1.2. The Tiger Sharks avoided a scare and came away with the 11.12 (78) to 8.4 (52) victory, despite the Mavericks putting up their best display this season. Cervantes’ trio of Jack Beer, Isaac Devitt-Boyd and Mitchell King all slotted three goals in the win, while Michael Duina kicked two for Moora. Moora will hope to maintain good form when they travel to face Dandaragan next week, while Jurien Bay host Lancelin. * In the reserves, Moora trumped Cervantes 9.6 (60) to 5.8 (38) while the Saints got up 3.5 (23) to 1.8 (14) over the Pirates. The hockey saw Dandaragan blow past Lancelin 5-0 and Moora defeated Cervantes 2-1. The A-grade netball is where Lancelin was able to claim a win for the club, taking down Dandaragan 43-29 and Cervantes got up 64-34 against Moora.
