Chapman Valley football club shatter Great Northern Football League records with 301-point victory
Chapman Valley have shattered the record books with the biggest win in Great Northern Football League history with a 301-point flogging of Mullewa on Saturday.
The round 13 clash between the undefeated Royals and winless Saints looked like a one-sided match up on paper, but the game ended in a 51.21 (327) to 4.2 (26) bloodbath at Mullewa Oval.
The GNFL history books needed to be updated, with the result becoming the new highest score in a match, biggest winning margin, and biggest aggregate score for a single game.
It was also the first time in league history that three teammates each kicked 10 goals in a match, with Stuart Egan (13), Tyrone Papertalk Jr (11) and Daniel Borgogno (10) all having a day out.
Valley’s nine-goal first quarter is the most for any team this season in a opening term, but it would end up being their lowest scoring quarter in the game.
The side kept piling on goals, kicking 14.5 in the second and 10.4 in the third quarter.
Despite holding a 210-25 lead at three-quarter time, the Royals did not take their foot off the gas, kicking a massive 18.6 in the closing term to walk away with the historic win.
Egan’s 13-goal haul also ties the club record for most kicked in a single game, equalling the bags kicked by Graham Mabbs against Railways in 1974 and Rod Joseph against Northampton in 1992. He had chances to take the record for himself, ending the day kicking 13.9.
According to league stats expert Victor Tanti, it was the highest-ever score in a GNFL game (previous best was Railways’ 44.31 (295) against Mullewa in 2011), the biggest margin for a win (beating the previous biggest of Mullewa’s 219-point win over Northampton in 2013) and the biggest aggregate score for a single game (surpassing the previous best of 335 points between Railways and Mullewa in 2011).
