WA’s Easter long weekend has been marred by tragedy on the notorious Indian Ocean Drive when a 41-year-old man died at the scene of a two-car crash near Cervantes on Saturday afternoon.

His silver Nissan X-Trail SUV was travelling east on Cervantes Road when it collided with a white Toyota Hilux utility was driving north on Indian Ocean Drive around 3.45pm.

Police say the Hilux driver was uninjured, however two passengers, a 37-year-old man and 38-year-old woman, received injuries and were taken to hospital.

A Royal Perth Hospital spokeswoman said both were in a serious but stable condition.

The RAC Rescue helicopter was sent to the scene and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service firefighters were assisting. The injured pair were flown to Royal Perth Hospital.
