Carnarvon local Damon Lyall won round three of the ODH North/South Shootout at Carnarvon Speedway, bringing home the inaugural Westralia Cup.

The third round of the shootout saw competitors competing for the cup in the third day on Sunday at Carnarvon Speedway, with the results setting up for the Street Stocks Feature final deciding the cups winner.

Despite worries early in the day about weather, the final went ahead on Sunday with the skies clearing up and the tracks all prepared in time by volunteers from the Carnarvon Speedway.

The final race saw a pair of locals in Matt Hammond and Wade Mason leading the pack ahead which Lyall was starting in third.

An early restart in the final had Hammond put at the leader, but Lyall was able to take the lead out of turn four.

From there Lyall was able to maintain the first-place position, while Jake Hoath and Ben Norman chased on the rear, taking out podium spots.

Lyall took out the win by a slim margin of just under one second at 0.951 and had the fastest lap in the final with a time of 18.959 seconds.

He brought home the inaugural Westralia Cup, with the club cup named the Peter Lyall Club Cup after a Gascoyne racing legend, which will now stay in Carnarvon for the next 12 months.

While the individual cup was named the Clayton-O’Dowd-Oldfield Drivers cup.

The final round of the ODH North/South Shootout will take place at Nickol Bay Speedway in Karratha on June 28-29.
