Carnarvon, Shark Bay, Irwin and Geraldton receive State Government grants for Youth Week events

The Shire of Carnarvon is one of four local governments to receive $3000 towards Youth Week activities after the State Government announced funding for 40 community organisations and local governments across the State. A Youth Festival on Yinggarda Country in Carnarvon will coincide with Youth Week held on April 14-21, and will feature art workshops with elder Raymond Edney, activities like yoga in the park, public art mural projects with Gosia Taylor, mental health yarns and the Gascoyne’s first ever youth awards. The Shire will receive up to $3000 to go towards the festival, focused on delivering a component of cultural awareness activities with traditional owners and elders in the community. Other Mid West-Gascoyne grant recipients include Shark Bay Community Resource Centre who will host water and paint war challenges on April 28, with a variety of games and challenges run by volunteers on the school holidays. The Shire of Irwin for a Youth Week Skate Event on April 7, recognising the important contribution of youth in the community, and the City of Greater Geraldton’s Mullewa Youth Week Banner Project on April 7. A local artist will run painting workshops with local young people, helping to build art skills and facilitate social cohesion and pride. The theme for Youth Week 2023 is Becoming — With Others, We Dream.
