A volunteer umpire is being investigated by Carnarvon police, accused of inappropriately touching a female player during a football match in Carnarvon. A detective from the Carnarvon police station said they were investigating an incident of that nature but were unable to share details so as not to identify the alleged victim — who is a juvenile. It’s believed the alleged incident took place in May, however, It’s unclear when and where it occurred. “We’ve got to find all the parties involved, they’re not all local, it might take a little bit longer to track everybody down,” he said. “It’s not a particularly complicated investigation and there’s no indication it’s any bigger than what’s been alleged.” It is understood the incident has raised questions about whether background checks were conducted on the volunteer umpire. The Gascoyne Football Association and WA Football Commission both declined to comment, citing the matter was now a police investigation.
