Carnarvon named one of WA’s top tourism destinations
Carnarvon has been dubbed WA’s top tourism town with a population under 5000.
The laid-back coastal town won the Top Tourism Award in its category at the GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards in Perth last night.
It also received the Community Engagement Award and a $10,000 airtime package from GWN7.
Carnarvon was the only town in the Mid West to receive an award.
Judges said Carnarvon “showed a high level of industry, community and local government collaboration, and strategic use of social media to attract visitors to their town”.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder took the highest honours, winning the Top Tourism Town Award for a town or city with a population over 5,000, for which it was awarded a $25,000 airtime package.
The Goldfields hub also won awards for Tourism & Business Planning as well as Heritage, Cultural & Environmental Visitor Experiences.
Christmas Island claimed two awards in the categories of Marketing & Media and Destination Video, while Coolgardie won the Judge’s Visit Award.
The awards are run by Visitor Centres WA and were presented at the fourth annual WA Tourism Conference at Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre.
