Carnarvon hosts Gascoyne Games, bringing communities together during the multi-sport regional event

Local and travelling athletes made their way to Carnarvon to participate in more than 11 sporting disciplines in the Gascoyne Games. This year’s Gascoyne Games was a display of camaraderie and community engagement over three days as the multi-sport regional event united the Gascoyne and surrounding regions. Several local community groups and sporting clubs set up around town from September 1-3. The Sailing Ragatta took off over the three days from the Carnarvon Yacht Club jetty, while the Gascoyne Games Family Fun Day ran from 1pm-4pm on Saturday, offering a bunch of sporting and children’s activities to keep families entertained, including the Fastest Kid in the Gascoyne race. Other community and sporting groups in Carnarvon which participated included the Shooting Sports Association, Rugby and Touch football, Volleyball, Basketball and Badminton, Windfest, Golf Club, Gymnastics Club, Tennis Club, Horse and Pony Club, Bowling Club, Darts Association and Athletics West. The inaugural event took place in Exmouth in 1994, and has been hosted by one of four local governments in the Gascoyne region since, including Carnarvon, Exmouth, Shark Bay, and the Upper Gascoyne.
