Carnarvon growers and the local Vietnamese community raised more than $5600 for Telethon in a show of community generosity.

A fundraiser was organised by Marco Ferreirinha, a local grower, with more than $3600 coming from the growers and another $2000 coming from an effort by the local Vietnamese community.

The idea came about from an agreement with the Carnarvon Growers Association — if the growers could raise $2500, the board would donate another $1000.

“The community really came together to give for a really good cause,” Mr Ferreirinha

“We’re a very multicultural community and we all come together to help each other.”

Joseph Nguyen helped organise raising the $2000 from the Carnarvon Vietnamese community, and said he was proud of how Carnarvon came together to help out.

“We’re always willing to help people out here,” he said.

The fundraiser took place over around six weeks, and Mr Ferreirinha and Mr Nguyen said they planned to organise a fundraiser next year with more time to fundraise, and hopefully raise even more money.
