Carnarvon detectives charge 84yo with 17 child sex offences

Carnarvon Detectives have charged an 84-year-old man from the Mid West and Gascoyne with 17 child sexual abuse offences.

Detectives allege that between 2016 and 2018 the man sexually assaulted a girl known to him, who was 14 at the time of the first alleged incidence of abuse.

He has been charged with 10 counts of indecent dealings with a child aged over 13 and under 16; three counts of indecent dealings with a child under 13; two counts of sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16; one count of persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16; and one count of encouraging a child over 13 and 16 years to engage in sexual behaviour.

He is due to face Shark Bay Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
