Captain Australia fixes trolley and meets with GRAMS before passing Geraldton on his walk around the country

Captain Australia has left a trail of goodwill in Geraldton this week on his mission walking around Australia to improve outcomes for kids with cancer. Cancer survivor Simon Harvey, known as Captain Australia, has nearly made it half way around the entire perimeter of Australia, and arrived in Geraldton on Sunday night for minor repairs and a well-deserved rest. Dressed as an iconic Aussie superhero, he has been walking on foot with a trolley for more than 220 days, aiming to raise $1 million for the Kids’ Cancer Project by walking a lap around Australia. On Monday, Mr Harvey visited Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service and spoke with medical staff who are living with the impacts of cancer. He said it was about uplifting communities through stories that share hope. “I’ve learnt to never discourage kindness. You have to see it and respect it, and if you don’t need it, find another home for it,” he said. “Whether you give, receive or witness it, kindness, it elevates us. In its absence, we’re just monkeys.” Captain Australia stopped over in Geraldton to send a bunch of postcards to impacted children who are following his journey, as well as completing some minor repairs after accidently tipping over his trolley and damaging the wheels. On Tuesday, he left on foot, heading north towards Northampton. Captain Australia was affected by cancer, having stage four invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. Carnarvon will mark the half way point of his journey.
