Boys accused of preying on Carnarvon elderly

Carnarvon Detectives have charged two boys after a woman in her 60s fell after an attempted bag snatch, and a man in his 70s had his wallet taken yesterday. “It will be alleged around 11.20am a woman in her 60s was in the Robinson Street shops when the boys approached her,” Detective Acting Sgt Steven Rollings said. “They attempted to take her handbag away and during the struggle the woman was dragged to the ground, landing on her back and shoulder.” Acting Sgt Steven Rollings said this happened about 10 minutes after a similar incident. “One of the boys snatched a wallet from the hands of a man in his 70s who was on his mobility scooter on Robinson Street, stealing cash before discarding the wallet,” he said. Acting Sgt Steven Rollings said the woman was taken to Carnarvon Hospital and treated for a fractured shoulder, and the man was not hurt. Police charged an 11-year-old boy with aggravated assault with intent to rob and stealing from the person of another. A 12-year-old boy was charged with aggravated assault with intent to rob. Both boys are due to appear in the Carnarvon Children’s Court on October 9.
