48yo Mandurah man accused of shoving City of Greater Geraldton rangers after illegally camping in car park

Police have charged a man accused of illegally camping at a car park near Pages Beach after he allegedly assaulted a ranger attempting to move him on. Geraldton police allege City of Greater Geraldton rangers attended a sand car park at Pages Beach on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of illegal camping in the area. Acting officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Andrew Ramsden said a 48-year-old man woke up and exited the van after rangers announced themselves several times and was advised to move on and ensure his dog was on a leash. It’s alleged the man became verbally abusive, aggressive and threatened to assault the rangers. “A verbal argument developed and without warning, the male struck one of the rangers to the chest causing immediate discomfort,” Sen. Sgt Ramsden said. A 48-year-old Mandurah man was arrested and charged with assault public officer and will appear in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on June 22.
