Geraldton students who participated in the 2022 Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students Program were celebrated at an awards ceremony last week.

Geraldton Senior High School’s Lilly Cooper was awarded the 2022 Midwest & Gascoyne VETDSS Student of the Year for her work with PAiS Electrotechnology.

Sophie Aylmore from Nagle Catholic College took home the employment based training student award for certificate II in tourism.

Geraldton Christian College’s Braydon Kietzmann won the ‘trade based trading student award’, PAiS Automotive.

Shekana Gilewski-Laresen became the second Geraldton Senior High School student to win on the night, being awarded the certificate II vocational studies award for community services.

Rachma Nurhaliza was crowned higher vocational studies student of the year for a certificate IV in preparation for health and nursing studies.

Lilly Cooper said she was thrilled to win the 2022 TAFE student of the year award.

“I was dedicated and worked hard to be successful in this course. To be rewarded at the end like this for all my efforts really means a lot to me,” she said.

VETDSS Central Regional TAFE co-ordinator Alison Nobles said the program, which has about 200 Geraldton school students, gave them the opportunity to study qualifications in different industry areas.

“Doing a VETDSS qualification is value adding to your portfolio post school. VETDSS qualifications can be used to find employment, further training and getting into university. Not just getting you through school,” Ms Nobles said.
