Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire Council voted to adopt plans for upgrading Bridgetown’s Youth Precinct at its council meeting on Thursday.

The next phase will make the project construction-ready, should funding be made available.

The extension of the existing facilities would include a new skate bowl, a parkour area, a mini pump track and the replacement of the existing mixed gender toilets with toilets for each gender.

Wi-fi would also be installed as part of the upgrade, aiming to empower facility users to upload content produced at the park without having to use their mobile data.

The report and design was provided by Skate Sculpture, in consultation with students at Bridgetown Primary, St Brigid’s Primary School and Bridgetown High School.

Shire president John Nicholas said he was excited with the input received from Bridgetown’s young people.

“It’s been developed in conjunction with the youth group themselves and of course council has been planning to do something fairly positive with what was the old skatepark for some period of time,” Cr Nicholas said.

“It’s very exciting to finish off the whole of that precinct, we now have the Rec Centre and new pool in place and now having this youth precinct developed in between that and laying alongside the library is a very exciting development for the community.”
