Residents of Nannup’s north will choose one more person to represent them on their council.

Nannup Shire Council will hold an extraordinary election for a North Ward seat on December 18 after one of the ward’s three seats was left vacant after the local government elections in October.

The seat was left empty after Cr Cate Stevenson retired but no one stepped forward to fill the position.

The election will be held at the Shire office between 8am and 6pm on Saturday, December 18. Early votes can be cast between now and 4pm Friday, December 17.

Nannup residents welcomed newcomer Ian Gibb to the council at the recent local government elections after he beat former deputy shire president Robin Mellema to one of two South Ward seats.

It was the only seat on the council up for grabs at the election with Charles Gilbert taking over Vince Corlett’s Central Ward seat and returning councillors Chris Buckland and new deputy Shire president Vicki Hansen, running in the Central and North wards respectively, all elected unopposed.

The third North Ward seat currently belongs to Cr Cheryle Brown.

The two candidates running for the final North Ward seat are Dr Bob Longmore and Frank Camarri.

Bob Longmore

I have nominated for the position of North Ward councillor.

I am a strong believer in community and the unique Nannup ambience, and believe that my extensive service on several committees and being a councillor previously for eight years has provided an excellent record of my continuing involvement in our Nannup community.

We live in challenging times in WA and I believe I can bring responsible support and commitment in a role as a councillor representing both our North Ward and Nannup as a whole.

I seek your support in my bid for election as a North Ward councillor.

Frank Camarri

I have nominated to stand for the council for the North Ward.

Nannup is a wonderful place to live.

There have been many changes in Nannup over the years but the character of the place has remained unchanged.

We will see more changes in the future but retaining our special place is important.

Bushfires are an ever present fact of life in our Shire.

Whilst we are well prepared, I support the upgrade of the Gracilis Road as a matter of urgency.

I ask for your support in the upcoming election.
