A Manjimup business has found a cane toad within the town’s light industrial area.

The toad was discovered at Gandy Street on March 22, and was delivered to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions offices on March 23.

Warren region wildlife officer Ian Wheeler believed the toad had been brought to Manjimup inadvertently by a vehicle. The toad was taken by department staff to local businesses in Manjimup’s light industrial area on March 24 to show them a cane toad’s physical appearance, to encourage vigilance among the business community.

“The toad has been taken around to most businesses in the light industrial area to show them what they look like,” Mr Wheeler said.

Mr Wheeler said cane toads were recognisable by their dry skin, large glands and a bony, n-shaped ridge across their nose. He said the best time to search for cane toads was after dark, as the toads used artificial light to catch insects.
