Boyup Brook Community Resource Centre has announced the results of its Kambarang in Art Competition.

The competition was judged by local artist Chris Latham — who held a gel plate printing workshop as part of the centre’s NAIDOC week celebrations — as well as workshop participants and CRC staff members.

The Kindy to Year 3 prize was won by Willow Beatty, with the runner up spot being taken by Addison Muir.

In the Year 4 to 6 category, Henry Simpson won the top gong, with Indi Forbes taking second place.

A special prize was awarded to the North Fremantle School of Early Learning’s kindy class, which entered a collaborative piece in the competition after seeing the competition on Facebook.

Prize winners will receive art supplies, with first place winners also receiving a copy of Waakarl Kardakoor Bilya-k, a book about the story of the Rainbow Serpent.

CRC manager Jodi Nield said the judging process was difficult.

“The entries were fantastic and were well supported by the primary classes at Boyup Brook District High School,” she said.

“It was exciting to receive an entry from North Fremantle via email, it is a great example of technology enabling people to connect and share for a common cause.”

Funding for the competition and workshop was provided by the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
