Eastern Goldfields Kart Club is this weekend hosting a big slice of WA’s best talent while formally celebrating 30 years since the opening of the West Kalgoorlie circuit.
The special 30th anniversary program includes the return of the historic Golden Mile Challenge, in conjunction with round five of the State Series.
For years, the Golden Mile Challenge was an Easter long weekend staple at the club and its blue-ribbon event.
In 1990, it was decided across two days for the first time, with the Saturday leg held under lights at the old airport track.
It traditionally drew more than 100 drivers annually but by 1992 interest had waned, with fewer than 60 drivers taking part because of a clash with the national championships over east.
About 120 competitors are expected this weekend, with free entry applying for spectators on Saturday and Sunday.
