After an exceptionally dry past year, the rainfall in Kalgoorlie- Boulder this week has been welcomed by all.

Few have appreciated it more than three water-obsessed dogs that frequent the Kalgoorlie Arboretum.

Karyn and Anthony Thomas take their three rescue dogs, Jake, Esme and Boofie for a walk to the gorgeous leafy reserve every day without fail.

With the lake nearly dry on Sunday, the fresh downpour has brought life back to the park and it’s been well received by the dogs, who wasted no time gallivanting through the fresh water this week.

All three were rescued from local animal shelters or the pound, joining the Thomases’ two cats, Pearl and Lala, who generally rule the roost.

Mrs Thomas said it was the feeling of adopting a rescue dog and giving them a better life that made her choose a rescue pup every time.

“They’re outgoing, gentle as, affectionate — they’re just beautiful,” Karyn said of the dogs.

“They just appreciate what you give them because they’ve had nothing.”

Despite their age differences — with Jake only two years old, Esme six and Boofie turning 12 soon — the three dogs get along very well.

“They’re all pretty sociable so they all accepted each other,” Karyn said.

“They’re all pretty well behaved.”

While Boofie enjoys exploring and adventuring around the Arboretum, sniffing all the smells and wandering around the long grass, Jake and Esme are water dogs who are happy to spend hours on end diving in and out of the water, chasing sticks and balls to their hearts’ content.
