Children’s activities help make Father’s Day memories

Youngsters at a Kalgoorlie-Boulder childcare centre showed how much they appreciate their dads, uncles, grandfathers and other significant figures this week. Kids on Carrington invited paternal figures to bond with their children over a range of arts and crafts, and play activities during a Father’s Day lunch on Monday. Service manager Brooke Lintern said children always enjoyed hosting their parents and guardians when they visited the centre. “They all get so excited about it and tell all of their friends, ‘my dad’s coming today’,” she said. “When they see their dad walk through the gate, their faces just light up.” Lachlan Edwards, father to two-year-old Aurora, said he relished spending quality time with his daughter. “I really do value the time that I have with my daughter, there’s lots of fathers that don’t have that (opportunity),” he said. Dave Stewart said he had fond memories playing soccer with his father and recently introduced his two-year-old son Owen to the game. “My dad was really active with all of our sports when we were kids,” he said. “We’ve got his started with soccer . . . it’s a good (way) to spend good quality time with him.”
