The McGowan Government has pledged $3.3 million to start moving WA’s ageing maternity hospital to the QEII Medical Centre in Nedlands.

At the launch of the final report of the Sustainable Health Review, Health Minister Roger Cook said the funds would be provided in the upcoming State Budget to replace King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Mr Cook said staff at the Subiaco hospital were working in sub-optimal conditions.

Mr Cook said the Government supported the 30 recommendations from the report by independent reviewer Robyn Kruk.

It will spend $26.4 million to implement the changes, which include moves to reduce obesity rates and triple the spend on prevention programs by 2029.

The Australian Medical Association WA welcomed the changes but said the report was a planning document rather than a clear blueprint for the future of health care.
