June start for more SA vaccine centres

South Australia will establish two more mass COVID-19 vaccination clinics by early June in a bid to accelerate the rollout across the state.

The sites at Noarlunga, in Adelaide's south, and at Elizabeth in the north, will be in addition to the centre to be opened at the Wayville Showgrounds in the city later this month.

All three sites will be dedicated Pfizer facilities, provided the government can access sufficient supplies.

Premier Steven Marshall said after meetings with the federal government, SA now had more clarity on projected vaccine deliveries.

"This means that planning for clinics at the Playford Civic Centre (in Elizabeth) and the old Masters site at Noarlunga can progress and we expect both these sites to be established and getting jabs in arms by early June," he said.

"These two hubs will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and effective vaccine rollout across South Australia."

The three sites will also complement planned regional vaccine centres in Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier and on Kangaroo Island.

"The level of vaccination in South Australia is closely aligned to our share of the population, and opening more clinics across the state will help us to further scale up this rollout," Health Minister Stephen Wade said.

The larger clinics are expected to have the capacity to administer 3000 vaccine doses each week.

Mr Marshall said more than 100,000 South Australians had received at least one jab so far, taking into account those provided by the state and federal governments and through GP clinics.

SA Health reported two new coronavirus cases on Thursday, both in returned travellers.

They remain in hotel quarantine.

SA has 12 active COVID-19 infections including a man in his 40s who remains in a critical condition in intensive care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
