Tambellup’s new officer-in-charge David Swain puts drug dealers on notice

Sergeant David Swain has taken the reins as top cop in Tambellup and wasted no time putting drug dealers on notice.

Sgt Swain’s appointment as officer-in-charge came after his recent promotion to sergeant.

He replaces the town’s previous OIC, Sgt Josh Humble, who transferred to Esperance earlier this year.

Sgt Swain joined WA Police as a cadet in Perth in 2009 and transitioned to an officer in 2011.

He has spent most of his career in regional WA including six years in Narrogin and three years in Waroona.

He started in his new role in Tambellup in late October after a stint in Harvey.

After more than 10 years with WA Police, this is Sgt Swain’s first posting as officer-in-charge.

He said he was excited to become part of the Tambellup community and felt his regional policing experience had prepared him for the new challenge.

“This has provided me with a clear insight into regional policing and the challenges faced by the community,” Sgt Swain said.

“My aim while here is to actively target drug dealing in the Great Southern as this issue not only affects the persons involved but the community as a whole.

“I would seek any community members to come and speak with me about any of their concerns, as my door is always open and all information is kept confidential.

“If they don’t feel they can speak with me, I always suggest contacting Crime Stoppers.

“I intend to be involved in the community as much as I can, as what affects the community affects me and my family as well.”
