Rest Stop Rescues: The two WA travellers cleaning up the State’s campsites with a pair of tongs and a bag each

Two WA travellers are helping clean up the State’s rest areas one stop at a time, all while posting their work on social media. Rest Stop Rescues, made up of Busselton locals and best mates Jack Hall and Liam Fellows, have begun cleaning rest stops after starting their travels across WA. Mr Hall said the idea stemmed from seeing the campsites shortly after beginning their journey. “We got to Jurien Bay and there was a spot there that was just beautiful, but there was rubbish everywhere,” he said. “We picked up a couple of things, and we thought it felt right, so we thought we’d toss some ideas around.” The pair sat around the campfire with a beer in hand, planning how they would go about spreading their message. After filming themselves in Dongara and at Geraldton’s Drummond Cove the duo posted to social media, with a post on the Geraldton Noticeboard Facebook group receiving thousands of likes from the community. Their message was simple. “We’re doing this, you can do this too,” Mr Hall said. “Get a pair of tongs and a plastic bag.” Rest Stop Rescues aims to head across WA, spreading its message to it’s community which has grown to more than 1000 followers in less than a week. The pair have been welcomed by every town they’ve visited to date, receiving thanks as well as offers for pints at the pub and petrol for their cars. Now the duo have started they have no desire to stop anytime soon and have no plans as to how far they go. “We’re just riding the wave at the moment,” Mr Fellows said. “Just enjoying it as much as we can and whatever comes of it will come of it.” “If we like this place, we’ll stay. If we don’t, we’ll move on,” Mr Hall added. Rest Stop Rescues is looking to keep their journey as minimal and as cost-efficient as possible by staying at the free campsites they clean up. They hoped their idea would inspire others to clean up after themselves and leave places cleaner than when they found them.
