Pumas avoided a shock at the hands of the Lightning in round 13 of the Geraldton Netball Association to win 45-38 and keep in touch with the top two.

Lightning have won just two games this season, both against the winless Falcons, and were down early, trailing 6-10 after the first quarter.

They surged back into the match thanks to a 15-goal second quarter to close within one goal at the half.

They were still in contention come the final term, down by only three goals, but a late surge from the Pumas saw them take the final quarter 12 goals to eight and come away with the win.

It secured the Pumas third spot, just two points behind Kazuals who have a game in hand.
