Mid West players suffer losses around the league except for high-flying Eagles

It was a twist of fate as every Mid West player in the AFL suffered a loss except for the West Coast Eagles’ players at the weekend.

Typically, it is the Eagles in the losers column while the other Mid West players enjoy wins, but West Coast picked up their first points of the season over Richmond.

Northampton’s Jamie Cripps has been a consistent scorer for the side this year, and it finally came together as the Eagles ran up the score, kicking 16.13 (109) to the Tigers’ 10.10 (70).

In Sunday’s win, Cripps booted 2.1 with 10 disposals, four marks, one clearance and one goal assist.

New recruit Tyler Brockman, who has family ties in the Mid West, got his first win in his new colours as he returned to the side after missing the previous week with concussion.

Still yet to kick a goal with the side, Brockman put through a behind with 10 disposals, two tackles, one clearance and one goal assist.

Now the Eagles will hope to keep the train rolling into the western derby next week, with Fremantle reeling from another close loss.

During Freo’s 9.12 (66) to 9.9 (63) loss to Port Adelaide on Saturday, Dongara’s Jaeger O’Meara saw real minutes for the first time this season as part of the 22 after coming in as the sub previously.

In the defeat, O’Meara had 14 disposals, two marks, two tackles, four clearances, and kicked a behind before he was subbed out in the third quarter.

One of the biggest upsets of the round came from Carlton on Saturday, suffering their first loss of the season 14.14 (98) to 16.4 (100) against a previously winless Adelaide.

Even with the loss, skipper Patrick Cripps put up an impressive performance with 22 disposals, three marks, eight tackles, seven clearances, and one goal.

Chapman Valley’s Jack Carroll was the sub for the game, coming in during the second quarter after an injury to Adam Saad.

However, Carroll was kept quiet with four disposals, one mark and three clearances.

Thursday saw Melbourne fall against Brisbane 8.12 (60) to 12.10 (82) at home, with defender Judd McVee nabbing 16 disposals, three marks and two tackles in the loss, with 200m gained.
