The Towns made them work but the Wanderers prevailed to beat them in Sunday’s Young Motors Women’s Cricket League.

Wanderers, with Lucy Gallop in charge, won the toss and batted at GBSC3 and made 5-115 off 20 overs.

Meg Spalding (43) was deadly with more runs from Abby Green (14) and Sam Biddiscombe (19 not out).

Towns were valiant in the chase and while Pam Micke (36) batted an upset was possible but she was run out by Charli Bidwell who fired in a return to Gallop.

They scored 6-103.

The result came after the Wanderers smashed likely grand final opponents Sportsmans last Saturday by 64 runs.

In that game, captain Linda Rose won the toss and batted, with her side making 4-116 and scuttling the Sporties for 52.

Charli Bidwell has been in grand form this season, putting on an unbeaten 55 with her sister Olivia last weekend, with the Wanderers looking good value for a title tilt.

At GBSC4, CVN’s Kyle Bremner (64) made a superb maiden 50 and guided her side to victory over Sportsmans, who were sent in and made 3-91.

Roz Barnes (40) and Jo Walker (29 not out) batted well for the Sporties while Tarni Screaigh (2-18) was the best of the bowlers.

CVN made 4-114 in the reply, securing victory in the 16th over after co-captains Kate Clarkson (36) and Bremner (64 off 46 balls) put on a match-winning 59 for the third wicket.

Bremner’s timing was amazing with three sixes and eight fours.

Tia Hatch (2-21) shone with the ball.

In Friday’s Young Motors T20 men’s comp at Wonthella, the Wanderers beat Bluff Point after making 8-106.

Michael Roberts (23) and Damian King (21) top-scored and Brett Marandez (2-34) and O’Brien (2-15) bowled well.

The Pointers started keenly in the chase with Brendan Miller (15) away but were all out for 88.
