Buildings and roads are in need of repair after more than 110mm of rain was dumped on Mullewa this week.

Mullewa recorded 53.4mm overnight to 9am on Thursday and 56.2mm over the 24 hours prior.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Pete Clegg said the downpour could be attributed to a tropical low moving over the Mid West.

“This low has produced fairly unstable conditions throughout the Central Midlands,” he said.

Mullewa Community Resource Centre manager Holly Freeman said staff jumped into action when the water level moved higher up to the wheels of their cars.

“We took our shoes off and waded into the water and moved our cars, which was quite funny,” she said.

“Our building was OK but there are a couple of buildings that have water damage because Mullewa was built in a creek bed.

“One lady came in and said she had waterfalls in her house and she has had to contact her insurance.”

Ms Freeman said flooding was almost unheard of in Mullewa. “I haven’t seen it rain like this and I was born here,” she said.

Ms Freeman said water quickly receded, leaving branches, dirt and other debris over the roads.

There were no call-outs for help, but several roads have been impacted including the Geraldton Mount Magnet Road and parts of Great Northern Highway.
