Truck driver taken to hospital after road train rolls across Great Northern Highway near Meekatharra

A truck driver was rushed to hospital this morning after a road train hurtling down Great Northern Highway rolled in the Mid West. The truck, towing three trailers, rolled just before 6am and about 150km north of Meekatharra. It came to rest just before a sharp bend in the 110km/h road, where it lay sprawled on its side across both lanes of traffic. Police said the driver had initially been trapped inside the cab, but was freed a short time later. He was taken by St John Ambulance to Meekatharra Hospital. The West Australian was told his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Raelene Hall shared a photo of the crash on Twitter, telling social media users “This happened on Great Northern Highway today”. “Glad I hadn't planned a trip to town today. Drive is okay thankfully which is all that really matters,” she wrote. The highway was closed in both directions for more than three hours — significantly less than the “most of the day” officers had initially predicted. A police spokesman tonight said the scene had been processed and that photographs of the site had been taken. He confirmed the driver was not intoxicated and that Major Crash were not investigating. The carnage came just one day after a 25-year-old woman crashed and roller her car near Bridgetown while driving more than four times over the legal alcohol limit. Police said it was “a miracle” no one was killed in yesterday’s crash, which decimated the silver car and landed the driver a drink driving charge. “(She) is lucky to be alive,” Bridgetown Police wrote of the woman, who allegedly recorded a blood alcohol content reading of 0.229 per cent. “It’s a miracle this crash was not a fatality. “Don’t wait until this is you, drinking and driving is NEVER a good idea. Arrive alive.”
