A woman in her 50s is in a serious but stable condition after a metal pole smashed through her windscreen in the State’s south this afternoon.

The woman was driving on Albany Highway 30 kilometres north of Williams when a metal pole came loose and flung from the truck in front of her and smashed through her windscreen.

She was transported in a rescue helicopter to Royal Perth Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, including a serious arm injury.

Police and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene just after 12:30pm this afternoon near the intersection of Albany Highway and Marradong Road.

The RAC chopper was called to a similar emergency in Lower Chittering soon after today, where a man in his 20s received facial injuries after a tow strap came off and struck him in the face.

Just after 1:30pm this afternoon, St John Ambulance and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called to the scene along Chittering Valley Road.

The chopper was stood down and the man was taken to St John of God in Midland in an ambulance, where he remains in a stable condition.

It is believed the tow strap was flung from a trailer driving in front of the man and smashed through his window, but St John Ambulance could not confirm at this time.
