A car has become a ball of flames and smoke following a crash in Perth’s north this afternoon, with three people on their way to hospital.

Three cars were involved in an accident at the intersection of Marmion Avenue and Whittington Avenue, on the border of Carine and Watermans Bay, about 3.30pm, authorities said.

The engine bay of one of the cars subsequently caught fire, sending flames rippling through the vehicle.

Police officers at the scene said the car, a Mazda, was fully engulfed with flames and thick black smoke for about 10 minutes.
