A car fire has caused major traffic delays on the Kwinana Freeway on Monday afternoon.

Kwinana Freeway northbound was reduced to a single lane at South Terrace as emergency crews battled to put out a van on fire.

Images and video of the scene show a van engulfed in flames, with traffic backed up to Mount Henry Bridge.

DFES WA confirmed two fire crews attended the scene shortly before 2pm, and managed to put out the fire at 2.20pm.

In a post on Facebook, Main Roads WA wrote: “Emergency, towing services and traffic management are on site. Traffic is heavy back to Mount Henry Bridge. Consider exiting via Mount Henry Bridge, Manning Road or Canning Highway. Avoid the area”

St John Ambulance did not attend the scene. There have been no reports of injuries.
