The daughter of late fashion designer Carla Zampatti is set to throw her hat into the ring for the seat of Wentworth, setting up a challenge to Liberal MP Dave Sharma.

Organisers of an independent campaign in Wentworth this week registered a domain under the name of Allegra Spender.

Ms Spender, the sister of fashion icon Bianca Spender, was the managing director of her mother’s business until 2016. More recently, she has been the chief executive at the Australian Business and Community Network charity.

Her father, John Spender QC, was formerly the member for North Sydney and the Australian ambassador to France.

The domain, allegraspender.com.au, was registered by organiser Lyndell Droga. Ms Droga has been contacted for comment.

Mr Sharma narrowly won the blue-ribbon seat from former independent MP Kerryn Phelps.

Wentworth Independents say they are a group of “concerned residents” looking for a candidate who will represent the issues important to the community.

“These include action on climate change and establishment of a federal integrity commission,” the group said in a statement.

Group members told the Wentworth Courier they were inspired by and shared values with Warringah MP Zali Steggall – the independent who ousted Tony Abbott in 2019.

“We've met with more than 30 possible candidates and we’re close to choosing a candidate and hope to make an announcement before Christmas,” Ms Droga told the Wentworth Courier earlier this month.

“We need to commit to real reduction targets by 2030. Our government's lack of climate leadership is holding Australian businesses back from the incredible economic opportunities that low carbon innovation offers in our region and globally.

“Unfortunately, while Dave Sharma pays lip service to being concerned about issues like changing climate, he votes the same on that and every other issue as Barnaby Joyce.”
