Police are hunting for thieves who stole nearly half a million dollars worth of antique cast iron columns in Helena Valley.

Police say the offenders somehow removed 41 six-metre columns — each weighing nearly three tonnes — from a commercial property earlier this year.

The columns were made in 1912 and have very distinctive Corinthian style capitals, the top of the column, and fluted bases.
