A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of another man whose body was discovered on a rural property in Tasmania's northwest.

The 59-year-old man was found dead near a burning car on his property in the tiny town of Sprent on Sunday night.

His alleged attacker, who was arrested at a home in Devonport in the early hours of Tuesday, has been charged with murder.

He is also accused of aggravated burglary and unlawfully setting fire to property and is expected to appear in Devonport Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.

Emergency services were called to the property after a member of the public reported seeing smoke.

The man who died lived on the property in a caravan.
