
A young man will remain in custody after facing court over an alleged domestic violence-related murder.
Emergency services were called to Merrigum Street, Windale, southwest of Newcastle, following reports of a concern for welfare shortly after 8pm on Saturday.
Officers attached to the Lake Macquarie Police District arrived to find the body of a woman, believed to be aged in her 40s.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman could not be revived.
She was yet to be formally identified.

Sign upBlaise McIntyre, 25, was arrested at the scene and taken to Belmont police station, where he was charged with one count of domestic violence-related murder.
He did not apply for release in a NSW bail court on Sunday and bail was formally refused.
McIntyre is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court on June 17.
