A 40-year-old man will face court this morning charged with allegedly setting fire to his own home in Butler — causing an estimated $100,000 damage.

Police say firefighters were called to the property on Pendleton Crescent about 10.25pm last night.

The accused man was taken to Joondalup Health Campus with minor injuries while other occupants of the home were lucky to escape without injury.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated as the fire caused extensive damage to the garage and smoke damage to other parts of the home.

Arson detectives have charged the man with one count of criminal damage by fire.

He is expected to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court this morning.
