Man killed on Melbourne road identified

Police have identified a pedestrian killed in a collision in Melbourne's southeast overnight.

The 48-year-old man was struck by a car travelling north on a green light on Stud Rd at Dandenong just after 8.30pm on Thursday.

Police said he appeared to be in a confused state on Herbert St prior to the collision and was seen "shuffling himself across a pedestrian crossing while sitting on the road".

Emergency services worked on the man but he died at the scene.

Police had earlier appealed for public assistance to identify him, releasing an image of the distinctive black runners with green soles he was wearing.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has spoken to police.
