A new tracking and tracing team is on the beat in WA, assembled to hunt people breaching State self-quarantine orders, put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The new dedicated team made up of WA Police and external agencies will liaise with Australian Defence Force personnel from either the Navy, Air Force or Army.

Operating since Monday, the force has already been monitoring compliance of individuals.

While WA Premier Mark McGowan commended the vast majority of community members for doing the right thing, he said self-quarantine or self-isolation was required and some people had already breached the orders.

On Monday, a man accused of repeatedly breaching self-quarantine by using a piece of paper to wedge open a fire escape door at his hotel to catch a train to Armadale to visit his girlfriend, appeared in court.

Vision released by WA Police this evening, showed officers attending a hotel at which a large number of people had been directed to self-quarantine.
