WA’s best up-and-coming lacrosse talent will journey to Busselton next weekend for the annual round robin event Re-Lax Down South.

Games will be held at Busselton Hockey Stadium, where spectators will be treated to several physical, fast-paced, competitive and highly skilful games.

Both men’s and women’s games will be played from 9.30am to 4pm, with a focus on participation and development.

As the sun goes down, the WA A-league players will take to the field to demonstrate the best the State has to offer. This competition will be held in a six-on-six exhibition format. The new style of play has been adopted so lacrosse can be considered as an Olympic sport.

The shorter format includes a shot clock with six past or present Australian representatives eager to display their skills in the new time-limited forward movements.

The under-18 WA Team will also compete in the event.

WA U18 coach Konrad Frankee said his team was excited to competing in the event.

“This will be a good outing for our young lads againts bigger bodies and that will help with our preperations for the national carnival in Melbourne,” he said.

“It will also be good for their fitness with the new fast format. Their hands will have to be quick and due to the six on six we’ll be working hard both ways.”

Australia’s number one ranked player Lachlan Walker and top defender Stuart Bentley will both play in the friendly event.

The Re-Lax Down South lacrosse tournament will be held on March 7. Entry is free.
