Man Walk now evening stroll

Catherine MasseyBusselton Dunsborough Times

Men will rejoice next week as the Busselton Man Walk group expands its grip to include a Wednesday evening stroll, in addition to their Monday morning activities, throughout the summer.

The Man Walk exists to provide a casual setting for men to open up about their mental health and wellbeing — and after overwhelming expressions of interest for an afternoon session, the group has announced its Wednesday 6pm time.

Man Walk co-ordinator David Barton said men interested in joining the walk, set to begin next week, should meet at the foot of the Busselton Jetty.

“The Man Walk in Busselton provides an opportunity for men to be active and connected as well as learn about and explore men’s health issues,” he said.

Next week the group will also be joined by WA Police South West family violence co-ordinator Sgt Don McLean to walk and talk about the 16 Days in WA campaign.

The campaign exists to open up conversations and stop violence against women, and Mr Barton said such a movement involved everyone.

“Healthy relationships are part of men and women’s health and wellbeing,” Mr Barton said.

“Don is at the coalface of this issue in our community and will bring to the Man Walk group important insights into the problem and how we can all be part of the solution,” he said.

Mr Barton said learning more about domestic violence and talking the issue amongst men was important in creating change.

Don Mclean will highlight the devastating extent of domestic violence has in the community, and will exhibit models of behaviour around power and control in the cycle of violence.
