Back-to-back win for Yobs

Yobs have been crowned premiers of the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association A-grade T20 competition with a nine-wicket win over St Mary’s.

It was back to back for Yobs who never relinquished control after restricting St Mary’s to 105 runs off 20 overs.

Nick Ritchie provided a glimmer of hope for the Saints with 38 not out but no other batsman could pass 20 in a subdued batting performance.

Ben Payne was the hero for Yobs with the ball, claiming 2-18 off four overs and running out St Mary’s danger man Jono Lloyd.

Nayt Colombera returned to form with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 55 off just 34 balls to justify his captain, and brother’s, faith in him at the top of the order.

Fittingly Nayt and Haig Colombera, who symbolise much of Yobs success, were out in the middle to finish the job.

Opener Harvey Golding produced another solid contribution with 40 off 36 balls but was bowled by Yobs part-timer Robert Blake with Yobs still 10 runs shy of victory.

It was another dominant performance from Yobs who sit atop the A-grade extended format ladder and are favourites to win both competitions after a slow start to the year.

Man of the match Nayt Colombera said his team would look to continue their good form and finish on top of the A-grade ladder and progress straight to the extended overs grand final.

“It was good batting conditions for the final and they made a sub-par score which made things easier to chase down,” he said.

“Everything went to plan, we started off well with he ball and put them under pressure with some close fielding positions and were able to score easily when we batted. We’ve had a lot of guys miss games throughout the year so we’re looking for that consistency for the finals.”

This weekend Saints will look for some redemption with a grand final rematch at Barnard Turf. Margaret River will take on a hungry Dunsborough outfit at Dunsborough Playing Fields.
