Warwick bushfire: Police probe suspicious blaze that threatened lives and homes

The arson squad is investigating a suspicious bushfire in Warwick that threatened surrounding homes, businesses and a school.

The blaze started on Sunday afternoon in bushland near the intersection of Beach Road and Lloyd Drive, prompting a bushfire watch and act is in place for people in the nearby area, warning there was a possible threat to lives and homes.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 4.15pm and managed to contain it by 10pm but it took several more hours to get it under control with changing conditions.

The fire burnt a significant amount of bushland and posed a serious risk to lives and property, according to police.

Strike Force Vulcan officers believe the blaze may have been started deliberately and have asked for people who saw anything suspicious in the area between 3pm and 5pm to come forward.

Anyone with mobile phone, CCTV or dash cam vision of the area can upload it here. Information can also be provided to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperswa.com.au. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.

Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
