Sydney woman sets 5G tower on fire twice

A Sydney woman has been charged with twice setting a telegraph pole carrying a 5G techology on fire, and making a third unsuccessful attempt to burn it down.

NSW Police arrested the 50-year-old woman in the affuent eastern suburb of Vaucluse on Sunday.

Her arrest came after the pole, on the corner of Derby Street and Cambridge Avenue, was set on fire in October 2021 and February this year.

The first incident caused $150,000 worth of damage but the second resulted in minimal damage.

Then on April 3, the woman was allegedly seen trying to douse a cloth attached to the pole with an substance before unsuccessfully trying to light the cloth.

The telegraph pole supports a 5G mobile tower.

The woman was charged with damaging property by fire or explosion causing damage worth more than $15,000 and two counts of damaging property by fire or explosion.

She was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Thursday.
