A man in his 30s has died in a house fire in Sydney's southwest.

NSW Police said emergency services were called to a home on Varden Way, Ambarvale, about 10.20pm on Tuesday, after reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW forced their way into the rear of the house where they found the man unconscious.

He was moved outside and given CPR but was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be the sole resident, who was aged in his 30s.
