A bushfire in Perth’s north is causing havoc for emergency crews on Sunday night.

As of 10pm on Sunday the fire was contained but still not under control.

The fire started just after 4pm in Hamersley along Beach Road near Lloyd Drive.

A bushfire watch and act is in place for people in an area bound by Mulligan Drive to the North, Allinson Drive to the East, Beach Road to the South and Erindale Road to the West. There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing.

The fire is contained but not controlled.

Police are warning the public that due to fire and smoke in the area Wanneroo Road is now closed to all traffic between Beach Road and Warwick Road, in Warwick.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area and be aware of emergency service vehicles in the area.
